The structure of the gate valve and its function in the pipeline

Gate valves are a widely used type of valve. Gate valves, also known as gate plate valves, are valves in which the opening and closing part (gate plate) is driven by the valve stem to move up and down along the valve seat (sealing surface) in a straight line. They are mainly used in pipelines to cut off the medium.

The gate valve has two sealing pairs and can be used in pipelines where the medium flows in both directions. It is usually applicable to working conditions where frequent opening and closing are not required and the gate is kept fully open or fully closed. Gate valves have a wide range of applicable pressures, temperatures and diameters, and are especially suitable for medium and large diameter pipelines. Gate valves are not suitable for use as regulators or throttles. For high-speed flowing media, when the gate is partially open, it can cause vibration of the gate. Such vibration may damage the sealing surfaces of the gate and the valve seat, while throttling can subject the gate to erosion by the medium. According to the different structures of the gate plates, gate valves can be classified into wedge elastic single gate valves, wedge double gate valves, parallel double gate valves and parallel double gate valves with top blocks for opening. According to the position of the valve stem's thread, they can be classified into two types: rising stem gate valves and non-rising stem gate valves.
